The Pearl of Lao Tzu

The Pearl of Lao Tzu is also known as Pearl of Allah. The Pearl of Lao Tzu can boast of being the largest pearl in the world. This huge pearl measures 9 1/2 inches x 5 1/2 inches.

The Pearl of Lao Tzu was found in 1934 by a Filipino diver. This majestic pearl was found in a giant Tridacna in the Palawan Sea. This pearl is worth $40 million USD and weighs 14 pounds.

After Taoism founder Lao Tzu, the Pearl of Allah is called Pearl of Lao-Tzu. The Pearl of Lao Tzu is the largest recorded pearl which has several legends. The Pearl of Lao Tzu has a fathomless origin and a great spiritual meaning according to the Chinese legend.

The Pearl of Lao Tzu was extracted from a giant clam off the coast of Palawan. On 7 May 1934, a Muslim Filipino diver found this pearl. The history of The Pearl of Lao Tzu goes back to 1934 when Wilburn Cobb who was the son of American mining engineer, saw a native diver during hunting in the Philippines. The native diver had been seized by the jaws of a giant clam. That clam contained an enormous pearl. The enormous pearl in the shape of a turbaned face was thought to resemble Mohammad. From then the pearl came to be known as "The Pearl of Allah", a name given by the Muslim tribal chief. After two years of the discovery of the pearl, Cobb got the ownership of the pearl from the son of the tribal chief as a token of gratitude.

The Pearl of Lao Tzu was brought to America by Cobb in 1939. Victor M. Barbish was able to purchase the pearl after Cobb’s death in 1980 for his daughter. Mr. Barbish donated the Pearl of Allah to the Pearl For Peace Foundation, Inc.
